Achievements for GoldenEye 007 have popped up on the Xbox website, sparking new speculation that the game could be announced for Xbox soon. Rumors like this have long persisted but the fact that they come just days before the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase has led some to believe the dream finally could come true on June 12. Furthermore, some believe it could be a show drop, meaning it’s released the same day as the announcement.

Now, to be clear, Microsoft has not officially announced GoldenEye 007 for Xbox yet. And there’s some uncertainty as to whether this is a full remake or just a remaster of the original game or something in between like what we saw with Perfect Dark. Either way, simply being able to play this gem on Xbox would be enough for me and many others like me who have been dying to re-experience the joy this classic once brought us.

GoldenEye 007 was developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It was first released back in 1997, so it’s celebrating its 25th anniversary this August. What better time for a re-release?

An Xbox Live Arcade remaster of GoldenEye 007 was in development at Rare for several months in 2008 but was reportedly canceled after Nintendo, MGM and Microsoft were unable to come to a licensing agreement. What really makes this sting is that the game only needed two more months of development.

If GoldenEye 007 does end up getting announced this week, it likely won’t be an Xbox exclusive. There’s a strong belief that it will also release on Nintendo Switch and PC as well with possible cross-play support. To me, that would just be icing on the cake.

Next. Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase officially announced. dark

Again, none of this is confirmed. But tune in to the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase this Sunday, June 12, to see if it gets announced.
