The late John Madden will be the cover star of this year’s Madden 23, as he rightfully should be. The legendary coach and commentator, for which EA’s annual football franchise is named after, passed away in December of last year.

With EA typically releasing various versions of Madden each year, there was some concern that Madden would only appear on one of the covers. That doesn’t appear to be the case though. He will be remembered with three different covers that pay tribute to a different chapter in his life and the legacy he left around the NFL.

EA so far has only shared the cover for the All-Madden Edition which pays homage to the original John Madden Football released in 1988 and highlights John Madden as the video game icon. The recreation of the iconic image was made by Philadelphia-based sports artist Chuck Styles and features Madden bursting through a playbook of X’s and O’s.

EA also shared additional key art for Madden 23, which will presumably be used for the Standard and MVP editions of this year’ game. The first is an iconic image of Madden celebrating his Oakland Raiders’ 32-14 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI.

The second image represents John Madden’s legacy as a broadcaster and analyst of NFL games from 1979 to 2008. He’s seen wearing his headset and scribbling pass patterns on the screen.

Madden 23 will also celebrate Madden’s legacy with an interactive experience that “will feature two versions of Coach Madden leading opposing teams of “All Madden” athletes facing off in the 1970s Oakland Coliseum.” EA has also remastered audio clips of Madden as broadcaster, giving fans one more chance to hear that legendary voice. EA has other plans to honor Coach Madden in Madden 23 which will be revealed in the coming weeks.

EA has also announced that the full reveal of Madden 23 will take place on June 2 at 10:00 a.m. ET. You can tune in to watch the official reveal trailer drop on YouTube.
