Star Wars Jedi: Survivor: Was that Starkiller in the bacta tank?
This weekend, EA and Respawn finally revealed Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the long-awaited sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The release date was accompanied by a brief cinematic teaser that was pretty light on actual plot details. Once again, we see Cal Kestis on the run from the Empire.
But at the very end of the trailer, we see Cal approach a bacta tank with someone inside of it. Who is this mysterious character?
We don’t know for certain, but a popular theory floating around the internet right now is that the character could be Starkiller, the main protagonist from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Starkiller, born Garen Marke, definitely has an interesting backstory that ties into the early days of the Galactic Empire’s rise. He was kidnapped and trained by Darth Vader as a personal assassin with the ultimate plan to overthrow Palpatine.
It’s an amazing story, but one that’s no longer canon as it belongs to the Star Wars Legends expanded universe. As much as I would love to see another version of Starkiller worked into Respawn’s series, I just don’t see it happening.
A more plausible theory is that this is a new character — a Jedi that was previously injured in battle. Maybe the scene in the teaser isn’t of Cal preparing to fight, but a flashback of another Jedi’s battle. Maybe Cal is in search of this recovering Jedi to help learn the ways of the Force.
As Cal seems to be on the run and alone once again, the line, “What’s your next move, Jedi?” seems to imply that the Jedi is in search of someone who can help turn the tide of the battle against the Empire.
I’m willing to wager this is not Starkiller, but an entirely new character in the franchise. It seems that he’s been recovering in this bacta tank for a while. Fallen Order takes place a couple of years after Order 66, and Jedi: Survivor is set five years after the events of Fallen Order. If this is an older Jedi, it’s unclear how long he’s been in the tank.
