Madden 23 running back ratings leak: Who’s the best RB?
Madden 23 ratings continue to unofficially roll in and today we’re taking a look at the top-rated running backs in this year’s game. Again, these supposedly came from a leaked document from EA, but haven’t been confirmed or verified. But I love the debate that always surrounds player ratings, so I figured I’d share them with you.
At the top of the ratings list is none other than Derrick Henry. The Titans’ workhorse checks in with an overall rating of 97, the highest in Madden 23. For years, Henry has been the most dominant ball carrier in the NFL, eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark in 2020. Injuries derailed his season last year, but he still managed to put up 937 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games.
Last year, Henry began the season as the second-best running back in Madden 22 with a 96 overall (one point behind Carolina Panthers’ golden boy Christian McCaffrey). The knock on Henry has been he’s too one-dimension, although EA’s ratings adjustors blamed it on his Carrying and Trucking rating.
Henry flirted with the Madden 99 Club last season, but only reached as high as a 98 overall. He finished the season as the top-rated running back in Madden 23 with a 97 overall.
Perhaps the most surprising shake-up in the top Madden running backs is the leap of Jonathan Taylor. While many consider him to be the best half-back in all of the NFL right now, the 23-year-old checks into Madden 23 as the second-best running back with a 96 overall. However, I could easily see him leapfrogging Henry during the season if he plays like he did last year.
Rounding out the top five running backs in Madden 23 are Nick Chubb (96 OVR), Dalvin Cook (95 OVR) and Christian McCaffrey (95 OVR). EA maintains that injuries don’t impact a player’s rating and that does seem to be the case for McCaffrey who has struggled to stay on the field consistently the past two seasons. When healthy, McCaffrey is a game-changer. He can do it all which is why his 95 overall is warranted. The problem in real life is he can’t stay healthy. As long as he continues to produce while on the field, he’ll remain a top running back in Madden 23 despite his injuries.

I know I said I love the debate surrounding player ratings in Madden but if these are true, then I think EA nailed them. I think Henry deserves the honor of being the best-rated until proven otherwise. But Jonathan Taylor is an up-and-coming star and easily deserves second best. Again, with weekly updates, it’s quite possible either Henry or Taylor jumps into the 99 Club at some point next year.
What do you think of the Madden 23 running back ratings? Do you agree with them, if true?
