Goodfellas, GTA: Vice City actor Ray Liotta dies at age 67
On May 26, 2022, the world lost an acting legend. Goodfellas, Field of Dreams and GTA: Vice City actor Ray Liotta has passed away at the age of 67.
According to Deadline, Ray Liotta passed away in his sleep in the Dominican Republic. Liotta was in the Dominican Republic because he was currently filming a new film he was set to star in called Dangerous Waters, a thriller directed by John Barr.
Most people know Ray Liotta from his role in Goodfellas where he played the character Henry Hill and his role in Field of Dreams as Shoeless Joe Jackson. Ray Liotta had a very successful acting career and had achieved very many accomplishments. However, Liotta didn’t just stop at TV and film. He also was the voice actor for the character Tommy Vercetti in the video game GTA: Vice City.
Tommy Vercetti was the perfect character for Liotta to play. He had the “tough guy” persona. With Liotta voicing Tommy Vercetti in GTA: Vice City, the character had that powerful and charming personality which ultimately made tons of gaming fans fall in love with the character. To this day, Tommy Vercetti is one of the most popular characters in the GTA franchise because of how well Ray Liotta was able to do his job.
GTA: Vice City was released nearly 20 years ago on October 29, 2002. The game became so popular in the GTA franchise that Rockstar Games decided that it would re-release three of the most popular old-school GTA video games in a remastered trilogy which was released on November 11, 2021. GTA: Vice City is part of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition.
The cool part about this is that Rockstar Games took archival recordings of Ray Liotta’s dialogue and used them in the remastered video game. This doesn’t come as a huge shock since a remastered video game is still the same video game it was when it was originally released, just updated to look better on newer consoles. With the iconic voicing that Ray Liotta had with Tommy Vercetti, there was no chance they were not going to have that back into GTA: Vice City.

It is still hard to believe that such a legendary actor is gone at the young age of 67 years old. He will definitely be missed by many people across the world. His acting career was far from over and he truly loved acting any chance he was able to get. While the legendary actor may be gone, there are still tons of great films, TV shows, and video games that we are able to go back and enjoy what Ray Liotta did best, putting a smile on people’s faces.
