Has the time finally come to move on from the PS4 and Xbox One?

It is never easy to say goodbye to something that has provided you with thousands of hours fun and a generation of great memories. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that there is going to become a point in time where the PS4 and Xbox One are obsolete. The next generation of gaming consoles are coming up on two years old and there are rumblings that we are getting to the point where developers are going to be only focused on crafting their video games for the updated and more powerful console. It is something that is all part of the video game life cycle.

We are already seeing an example of the transition with Gotham Knights. It was recently announced by Warner Bros. Games that the upcoming multiplayer superhero game will only be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, even though it was also originally announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This is one of the first major signs that the gaming community has seen in terms of companies leaving the older generation consoles in the dust while they focus more on the next generation or shall I say current generation consoles right now. If you think about the whole situation that video game developers are in, it makes total sense.

Right now, you are still able to get most of your favorite video games on the PS4 and the Xbox One. Copies of video games on PS4 and Xbox One also tend to be cheaper compared to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S video games because they cannot provide gamers with everything that a video game on the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S can provide.

I think that if it was up to a majority of consoles gamers, they would have the new console in their possession. However, getting your hands on the Xbox Series X|S or even the PS5 has not been an easy task thanks to global shortages and high consumer demand.

I do think that if either of the newer generation consoles were more readily available to everyone, the change over to the next generation may have already taken place. Usually, the case is when developers start seeing other developers not releasing games on previous consoles, it tends to set a trend. With the move that WB Games Montréal and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is making, we may see more and more developers start following in their footsteps.

You may not be able to walk into your local store and pick up either the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, but if you do enough digging and are really set on getting your hands on one of these consoles, you will be able to get them eventually. The time may finally be coming very soon where the PS4 and Xbox One are going to be out on the back burner as developers are going to be pouring all their time and effort into creating their version of a perfect game on newer and much more powerful gaming consoles.
