With the Stanley Cup Playoffs in full swing, EA is giving hockey fans a chance to get in on the action with NHL 22. The latest installment in EA’s hockey franchise was added to the EA Play library today, effectively making it free to anyone who is an EA Play member or subscriber to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

NHL 22 is the first game in the franchise to be powered by the Frostbite engine, resulting in more realistic physics, improvement visuals and player details, realistic animations, and better lighting effects. On the gameplay front, the new Superstar X-Factors helps separate the best players in the league from everyone else.

Although we’re now in the playoffs, NHL 22 boasts a number of fun and entertaining game modes, including Be A Pro, Franchise Mode, World of Chel and Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT). EA Play members will also receive a special NHL 22 World of Chel Bag which will unlock special new gear to wear both on and off the ice.

The Xbox Series X version of NHL 22 currently sits at a 74 on Metacritic, with many critics praising the switch to Frostbite. While there’s always room for improvement, this was a clear step in the right direction for the franchise, paving a bright future on next-gen.
