Blizzard to reveal new Warcraft mobile game next week
Blizzard is continuing to expand into the mobile space with a new game set to be revealed next week. The studio teased that the new mobile game will be set in the Warcraft universe, but offered little in addition to that.
A blog post for the announcement reads:
"The Warcraft® universe continues to capture imaginations across the globe with enlightening experiences and immersive gameplay, that are the foundation for World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. We are happy to present a new mobile game for the heroes of Azeroth looking to play on the go, and we can’t wait to get it into your hands."
Besides the single blog post, the announcement was accompanied by a single image of a lightning bolt and a gear. It’s very much got that Warcraft look to it, but it’s an image we’ve never seen before.
Blizzard also also sure to point out that this is not a World of Warcraft mobile game but rather one set in the larger Warcraft universe. This also wouldn’t be the first mobile game from Blizzard set in the Warcraft universe. Blizzard’s free-to-play digital card game Hearthstone, originally subtitled Heroes of Warcraft, is also set in the massive fantasy world.
As far as what type of game Blizzard could be working on, there’s hope that it could be more in line with the RTS roots of the Warcraft franchise. If you want to find out more about this mysterious new mobile game, the reveal will take place on May 3 at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 a.m. ET. You’ll be able to watch the livestream here.
As I mentioned, Blizzard has been expanding into the mobile space with its franchises. In addition to Hearthstone and this upcoming Warcraft game, Blizzard is also set to launch Diablo Immortal, a spinoff of the Diablo franchise, for mobile devices this June. It was also recently confirmed that Diablo Immortal will also be coming to PC so it’s possible that this new mobile Warcraft game could also come to PC at some point.
