The next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has once again been delayed. CD Projekt Red took to social media today to announced the highly anticipated upgrade to the beloved RPG has been pushed back from its Q2 release window. There was no updated timeframe for when we can expect it to arrive.

Back in October, CDPR seemed confident that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at some point during the Q2 2022 window, or between April and June 2022. But as they’ve decided to move development of the game to their in-house team, they are still evaluating the scope of work that still needs to be done.

It’s possible the delay will be a short one and we can still expect The Witcher 3 to arrive on next-gen at some point in 2022. But with no real idea on the status of work, it’s hard to guess.

CD Projekt Red did meet its goal of releasing the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 in Q1. The next-gen patch of the game was released on February 15, 2022, allowing players to get the PS5 and Xbox Series X version of the game.

While it marked a closer step to what CDPR had originally promised Cyberpunk 2077 to be, the next-gen version was still largely underwhelming. The improvements were noticeable, especially as it pertained to fixing many of the hilarious (and frustrating) glitches and bugs present in the game’s initial launch. Bugs were still present, but at least the game was in a playable state. Overall, Cyberpunk 2077 went from unplayable to disappointing to a mediocre product.

Thankfully, we won’t have to worry about that with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The game released to universal acclaim and was praised for its grand scale and immersive world. While there were still technical issues, it was largely considered one of the best action role-playing games of its time. I don’t know if we’ll see a noticeable leap in the graphics, but the performance should hopefully be improved.
