3. Shohei Ohtani (95 Overall)

MLB The Show 22’s cover athlete and the man who can really do it all, Shohei Ohtani can both hit the ball and throw the ball. Not many players are good, let alone great at both. Shohei Ohtani is a great pitcher and a great hitter.

Last season, Ohtani had recorded a win-loss record of 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA. As a batter, he hit a .257 with 46 home runs and 100 RBIs. The Los Angeles Angles are getting 100 RBIs from their starting pitcher. Let that sink in for a second.

Before the MLB implemented the universal DH for both the NL and the AL for the 2022 season, teams would kill for their pitchers to just even get a base hit, let alone 46 HR and 100 RBIs. Ohtani’s stellar numbers last year also propelled him to win the AL MVP. Another great accomplishment for the two-way player.

Shohei Ohtani has influenced baseball in so much of a way since he made his way into the MLB in 2018, that they now have people calling a certain MLB Rule the “Ohtani Rule.” With the implementation of the universal DH in both the NL and AL, a new MLB Rules has spawned. The Rule states that if a starting pitcher is used as the team’s DH, then they’ll be allowed to remain in the game as a hitter once their day on the mound has ended. This new rule was basically built for the Los Angeles Angels and Shohei Ohtani himself.

There aren’t a lot of MLB players that can both pitch the ball and hit the ball at the elite level that Ohtani does. The only team and player who are going to utilize this new rule is going to be the Los Angles Angels and Shohei Ohtani. Hence the name the “Ohtani Rule.”

With that being said, take advantage of Ohtani in many different ways in MLB The Show 22. Pick him up on your Diamond Dynasty team. He is the perfect pitcher and batter to build teams around. Take advantage of what Ohtani has to offer, there aren’t many baseball players in the world who can do what this young athlete can do.
