Nintendo Switch Online has been updated with three new classics from the NES and Super NES era. Available to play right now for Nintendo Switch Online members are Earthworm Jim 2, Dig Dug II and Mappy-Land. For those of you too young to remember these gems, here’s a quick rundown of each.

Earthworm Jim 2

A sequel to Earthworm Jim (clearly, by the title), this run-and-gun platformer was released for the Super NES in 1995. Princess What’s-Her-Name has been kidnapped, once again, by the evil Psy-Crow with the intent of marrying her and claiming the crown. Suit up as Jim and jump from planet to planet in attempt to stop the wedding and save the Princess.

Earthworm Jim 2 received glowing reviews upon release with critics praising its humor and gameplay. Although it followed closely in the steps of its predecessor, the new level designs, improved animation and soundtrack all helped it rise to meet the standards of the first game.

Dig Dug II

Dig Dug II takes us way back to 1985. This action puzzle arcade game was originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan before arriving in North America in 1989. The premise of the game is simple: kill all the enemies on the island. As Taizo Hori, you are armed with two weapons: an air pump that can inflate enemies until they burst and a jackhammer that can be used to create faults in the ground and cause portions of the island to sink into the ocean.  The game has a very arcade feel to it as you clear rounds, scoring more points for killing multiple enemies at once.

Mappy-Land

I actually never played Mappy-Land, despite it actually coming to the Wii U Virutal Console in February 2015. The game was originally released in 1989 on the NES in North America and takes players through various themed areas with the goal of collecting six items in each one. Naturally, there are dangerous enemies trying to prevent you from doing so.
