Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: PS4 to PS5 upgrade explained
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is set to release on March 25, 2022 for PS4 and PS5. With PlayStation 5 shortages still preventing many from upgrading to next-gen, publishers are handling upgrade processes differently. For Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, it’s not terribly complicated, but does require you pay an upgrade fee or purchase a specific version of the game.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands next-gen upgrade explained
Before we get into the next-gen upgrade plan, let’s first look at the cost of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands on PS4 and PS5. Here are all the different editions of the game available on PlayStation.
- Standard Edition (PS4): $59.99
- Standard Edition (PS5): $69.99
As per usual, 2K is charging $10 more for the next-gen version of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Naturally, if you were to buy the PS4 version, you are able to upgrade to the PS5 version but you have to pay an additional upgrade fee of $10 (the difference in cost between the two versions).
Now it’s worth mentioning that you can still play the Standard Edition of hte PS4 game on PS5, but it will not be the optimized next-gen version. If you want the specific PS5 version, you’ll need to pay the upgrade fee.
If you buy a PS4 game disc of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, you’ll be upgrading to the digital PS5 copy. However, this will require that the PS4 disc be inserted into a PS5 with a disc drive so if you end up purchasing a PS5 later on make sure its not the Digital Edition of the console. This has been standard practice for the industry since the PS5 first arrived so it’s not terribly surprising.
Now there are also two special editions of the game: Next-Level Edition ($69.99) and Chaotic Great Edition ($89.99). Both of these — disc and digital version — include the PS4 and PS5 versions of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. However, if you’re buying a PS4 game disc of these versions, it will be a digital copy of the full game on PS4 when the disc is inserted into the PS5.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands also supports cross-gen saves, allowing you to transfer your progress from PS4 and PS5. Once you do this, the process can not be reversed so your save file will not be accessible on PS4.
Which version of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands should you buy?
If you have a PS5 already, you’re pretty much safe to buy any of the versions available, Standard, Next-Level or Chaotic Great. Just make sure you have a disc drive if you buy the physical version.
If you don’t yet have a PS5, I’d probably go with the digital version just to be safe. There’s no guarantee with the supply chain issues that you’ll be able to find a PS5 with a Disc Drive so you don’t want to limit yourself with which console you can buy should they become available.
