Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 removes building, adds Doctor Strange
Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 is officially underway. Epic Games is asking players to join the Resistance and has added Doctor Strange and a handful of other characters but has taken away one of the game’s biggest mechanics: building. One of the battle royale’s most controversial features, which helped set it apart from many clones, has been removed. Don’t fear though, it is only temporarily.
Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 2 is here to tell a story. The story they are trying to tell is part of their Resistance storyline. FaZe Clan’s official Twitter shared a little in-game prompt that pops up when you load up the new season that states the following: “Building has been wiped out. It’s up to the Resistance to get it back. Jump in with your squad and help The Seven uncover the imagined Orders nefarious plan.”
According to iFireMonkey, who is a very reputable source for releasing news about Fortnite, building should only be disabled for roughly nine days. Ultimately it is up to Epic Games if they find this new building mechanic something they enjoy or something that is going to just make gamers angry.
With the removal of building, Epic Games has added an Overshield as a way to balance this change. Your Overshield is an additional bar of shield that is above your health and armor bar. So, in order to get a kill, you will have to go through your opponent’s Overshield bar, armor bar, and health bar. There will now be three lines of defense to get through now.
If you really miss being able to build in order to get yourself out of a sticky situation or building a massive sky base, you can still do that in Fortnite’s competitive game mode and arenas. With how important building can be in combat, Epic Games didn’t want to ban this in any of the competitive modes.
There are also new Marvel characters making their way into this season’s Battle Pass. Doctor Strange and Prowler and two characters that really highlight the Battle Pass this season. You may also notice that Iron Man is making his return to Fortnite as well. If you weren’t able to unlock Iron Man the first time he made an appearance, now is your chance to play as him this time around. Tsuki 2.0, the Gunnar, and The Origin are also some characters that are going to make an appearance in this season’s battle Pass. With Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness releasing on May 6, it seems like a perfect marketing strategy by Epic Games to have him featured this season.
Not being able to build is definitely an interesting twist to have in Fortnite. You would have to think that it was just a matter of time before Epic Games would integrate this type of twist into a storyline. If you want to get building back in Fortnite, join the Resistance and fight to get back one of the most prominent features the game has had since day one.
