There’s nothing like Mega Evolving a Pokemon. It gives a mega power boost, but only if you have the Mega Energy. So how do you get Mega Energy in Pokemon GO? Here’s everything you need to know.

How do you get Mega Energy in Pokemon GO?

Mega Evolution is a temporary form some Pokemon can take that greatly increases their strength. Sometimes, it changes their types as well. In Pokemon GO, you need to feed the Pokemon you want to Mega Evolve some Mega Energy.

Mega Energy is specific for a Pokemon, so if you wanted to Mega Evolve Beedrill you would need Mega Beedrill Energy. There’s a few ways to gather this Mega Energy.

The simplest way is to defeat Mega Pokemon in a Raid battle. The Mega Energy you get will be determined by what Pokemon you’re fighting. Typically, there’s one Mega Raid in the rotation at a time and it’s about as difficult as a five-star Raid.

You can also earn Mega Energy by completing Research Tasks, or by walking with a Buddy Pokemon that’s from the same Evolutionary line as a Pokemon you’ve already Mega Evolved.

You can carry up to 2,000 of a specific Pokemon’s Mega Energy at a time.

Getting that first Mega Evolution will be tough, as you need 200 Mega Energy the first time you Mega Evolve a particular Pokemon. Subsequent times will only cost 40, but only for that specific Pokemon and that specific evolution in cases where they have multiple forms (like Charizard or Mewtwo).

Mega Evolution lasts eight hours, and you can’t power up Pokemon while they’re Mega Evolved. Their upgraded stats will be based on what they were at time of evolution, so pick the strongest specimen you have.

You can use Mega Pokemon in battles, but you can’t use them to defend a Gym or in the Battle League.

They’re especially fantastic in Raids, as a Mega Evolved Pokemon will give a bonus STAB (same type attack boost) to every Pokemon on the team when they use a move that’s the same type as the Mega on field.
