Looking to evolve your Eevee into Umbreon in Pokémon GO? It’ll be entirely up to chance unless you know the trick to choose what you get. Here are the guaranteed methods on how to get Umbreon in Pokemon GO.

How to get Umbreon in Pokemon GO

To evolve Eevee, you need to feed it 25 Eevee candy. From here, you can use the following three methods to get Umbreon.

1) Chance

When you evolve Eevee normally, it has a random chance to evolve into any of its eight possible evolutions. I don’t recommend it, as there are easier guaranteed methods for getting Umbreon.

2) Buddy

This reflects how you evolve Umbreon in the mainline games. In those games, you evolve an Eevee that meets the friendship threshold by leveling it up at night. Friendship is represented in Pokemon GO with the Buddy system.

Unlike other Pokemon that use the Buddy mechanic to evolve in Pokemon GO, Umbreon doesn’t need you to accumulate Hearts.

Set the Eevee you want to evolve as your Buddy and walk 10 kilometers with them and get two candies. This threshold is arbitrary just for Eevee and won’t be noted on your Buddy stats. From here, evolve Eevee at night to get Umbreon.

You can make sure you get Umbreon by checking for its shadow when you go to evolve Eevee.

3) Nickname

The second trick is the classic nickname method. If you set your Eevee’s nickname to something specific for each evolution, you can guarantee it evolves into that form. For Umbreon, set your Eevee’s name to “Tamao” and then evolve it.

Take note that the nickname trick works only once per Eeveelution, so choose the Eevee you want to evolve wisely. After it evolves, you can set the name back.

Umbreon is one of Eevee’s stronger evolutions, especially in the Great and Ultra Leagues. It has good resistance from its base stats and Dark typing, but watch out for Fairy and Fighting type threats.
