The Call of Duty franchise continues to grow and grow. With the newest installments being Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone, they have both given players hours of fun out on the battlefield.

If you are a fan of the Call of Duty franchise to begin with, you know that the first few months of the new year is the time where rumors, speculation, and news are released on what the new Call of Duty video game with be that year. The official Call of Duty Twitter page Tweeted that there is a special briefing in regards to a Community Update.

The Community Update provided everyone with a lot of information regarding Activision’s Warzone priorities, top community requests for their current video games and what the future holds for the franchise. The biggest news from the Community Update is not what is currently happening, but something that will happen in the future. It was revealed as part of this Community Update that Call of Duty 2022 and a Warzone sequel will be coming to the community later this year.

We don’t have very many details regarding this news, but we do have a tiny bit of news that can give us an idea of what the future of the franchise holds. Call of Duty 2022 will be a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019, which was a reboot of the Modern Warfare sub-series. Development will be led by Infinity Ward.

According to the update it is hard to tell if Warzone will just be getting a massive update or if an actual Warzone 2 game will be released. The Community update reads: “Development on both the new Call of Duty and the Warzone experience is being led by Infinity Ward.” From that statement it seems like a new Warzone game is in development, but in reality, you can never be for sure as to what developers have in store of the community.

According to the COD Blog, Warzone will feature a massive evolution to the Battle Royale experience, a brand-new sandbox mode, all-new playspace and new engine that will power the game. All this information given leads me to believe that this will indeed be a completely fresh installment.

As for the confirmation that the new CoD will be a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019, that confirmation, we can expect that we have another modernized video game and that we’re not going back to the old-style era. For some gamers this can be frightening news, but for others this may be music to their ears. After all, one of the best Call of Duty video games of all time is Modern Warfare 2, a game that took place in a modern-day era and was developed by Infinity Ward.

We’re still probably a ways off from the reveal of the new Call of Duty game. Call of Duty: Vanguard is only three months old, and players still have a ton of time to grind through seasons, levels, challenges, camos, or whatever you may be grinding. This news isn’t going to take away from players current experience playing Vanguard or Warzone, but instead get players excited for the future of the franchise. No release date has been announced, but like other COD video game release dates, you can expect that it will be sometime in November.
