Max Scherzer (New York Mets) – 95 Overall

It’s quite possible that the New York Mets could have the two best pitchers in all of baseball on their roster. The three-time Cy Young winner signed a three-year deal with the Mets this offseason prior to the lockout.

While a few pitchers like Corbin Burnes and Robby Ray emerged last season, Max Scherzer has just been doing it so well for so long now that I’ve got to give him the nod as the second best-rating player in MLB The Show 22.

Consistency matters and Scherzer is about as consistent as it gets. In his career, Scherzer is 190-97 with a 3.16 ERA.

Scherzer compiled a 15-4 record with a 2.46 ERA last season, which saw him split time between the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers. Like deGrom, Scherzer also missed time suffering from groin and biceps injuries. But when healthy, he performs at an elite level and Sony San Diego probably won’t hold injury against a player’s rating.

At 37-years-old, it will be interesting to see if Scherzer can maintain his level of eliteness. I think we’ll see a small downgrade from where he was rated at the end of last season in MLB The Show 21, but until I see him struggle on the mound, he’ll remain a top starting pitcher in MLB The Show 22.
