GTA 6: Next Grand Theft Auto entry in active development by Rockstar Games

Speculation about a new Grand Theft Auto entry has been talked about for a couple of years now. As of today, there is no need to guess any longer. Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6, or whatever the newest installment into the Grand Theft Auto franchise will be, is currently in active development.

Grand Theft Auto is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. The Twitter Tweet that delivered this news already has over 250,000 likes in the first two hours of it being announced. It has been no secret that fans have been waiting for this news to come for a very long time.

While the game is currently in active development, that does not mean that we are close to a release date. After all, Rockstar Games continued with the following:

Grand Theft Auto V was a massive success. That video game was first released back in 2013 and it still is being played today constantly by hundreds of thousands of players, if not more, thanks to its online multiplayer component GTA Online and the constant re-releases on whatever the newest consoles are.

Rockstar Games wants to create a video game that is better than previous entries. This is going to be hard feat to accomplish and is another reason why I don’t think they will want to rush this video game out anytime in the near future.

In the middle portion of 2021, there were reported rumors that a potential Grand Theft Auto 6 release date wouldn’t be until 2025. This news can still be true, but maybe more likely that a late 2023 or 2024 release date would be more suitable in the cards. It would be hard to believe that Rockstar Games would announce that the video game is in active development and make everyone wait almost three full years until we get the full game, but I guess anything is possible.

However, we already know that they have been working on the game for quite some time and they have just officially announced that the game is in active development. We don’t actually know how long the game has been worked on up to this point.

2022 is just getting started and it will be interesting to see how many more teases we get about the next Grand Theft Auto entry throughout the coming year. At this point Rockstar Games will not release too much information about the newest entry. All the community can do is create conversation on what potentially may be added to the game. Will the newest Grand Theft Auto feature its first ever main female character like early 2021 leaks suggested? Will the newest Grand Theft Auto integrate Rockstar Game’s newest NPC technology to simulate a more realistic traffic behavior on the roads? These are all questions that can be asked but will be answered when Rockstar Games feels the time is most appropriate.

For the time being, no one has to speculate any longer. There is indeed a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto franchise in active development and coming down the line. I wouldn’t get my hopes up for a release date in the immediate near future, but you never know when one morning you wake up to find out the new Grand Theft Auto has an official release date. If I had to guess, anywhere from late 2023-2025 will be the targeted release date window.
