Ghostwire: Tokyo release date announced alongside impressive preview
We finally got a lengthy trailer for Ghostwire: Tokyo, the upcoming action-adventure from Bethesda’s Tango Gameworks (developers of The Evil Within). The trailer showed off a lot of the gameplay loop and abilities in the game, trom the counter to what happens if you can stun lock a group of enemies.
This is all very reminiscent of a lot of anime of the same topic, namely Kekkaishi. I don’t know why but it definitely gives me that type of vibe. All of the yokai you fight in game look like they actually have interesting moves and different ways of subduing them.
The most interesting thing about the trailer was traversing Tokyo, where you can shoot up using Tengu demons to get onto the roof. I’m hoping there are a lot of sequences and reasons to get on the rooftops and explore around. The visuals of Tokyo look awesome too. Granted I’ve never been there, but the buildings, streets, and cars all look great and fit the setting of a sudden and instant creation of dystopia.
I also have to wonder about the story between your character and the yokai lending you their power. It looks like a typical begrudging team up leading to a friendship type story. So here’s hoping that if that is the case they take it in an interesting direction. If not though, these yokai look sick, creepy and really awesome, which makes you wonder what the driving force of them is and how our character can reverse the damage done.
We also got to see some stealth gameplay which looks silky smooth, like it would in Dishonored or Prey. You were out of sight lines without enemies seeing you, and you could get them in 1 hit, which is really great since that’s how you imagine stealth working. However, the stealth sequences and 1 hit attacks make me wonder if there will be a true leveling system or just perks?
Now to get to the part everyone has been waiting for, the release date which is March 25th. Holy crap, I can’t believe it’s going be here this soon. I’ve had my eye on this game since it was first announced and will continue to keep an eye on it until March 25th, when you and can finally get our hands on this and see if it looks as good as it feels. The game will be released on PS5 and PC.
