Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Games made waves this month when they announced multiple new Star Wars video games in development right now, including a new one from Respawn Entertainment. EA previously had exclusive rights to develop games for the blockbuster franchise but recently Lucasfilm opened it up to other studios. As a result, we now have eight different Star Wars games in the works.

Not all of them are to be released this year though. In fact, quite a few are still early in development. Here’s a current list of the Star Wars games in development right now.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Set to blast off on April 5, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywaker Saga is a retelling of the entire film franchise in LEGO form. Players can expect a classic family-friendly, fun-filled adventure mixed with TT Games’ signature humor. There are hundreds of characters to unlock and play as and multiple planets to visit as you play through all nine films in the Skywalker movie saga. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be released on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Star Wars: Hunters

Also arriving this year is Star Wars: Hunters, a free-to-play team-based multiplayer (4v4) game for Nintendo Switch and mobile. In this third-person combat game, players will mix and match teams of unique Hunters and take part in high-stakes competitions in The Arena.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is currently in development at Respawn — the same studio behind the original game — with Stig Asmussen returning as game director. The original Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released in 2019 and restored some fan faith in EA’s ability to handle the Star Wars franchise. Ultimately, it was too little too late as Lucasfilm ultimately opened things up to other studios. Still, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a solid single-player action adventure and hopes are high the sequel will live up to expectations.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

BioWare’s critically acclaimed Star Wars RPG, Knights of the Old Republic, is being remade by Aspyr Media, the developer behind recent ports of Republic Commando and Jedi Academy. The KOTOR remake is being “completely rebuilt from the ground up” for next-gen consoles and PC. It was only announced for PS5 and PC, although it was later confirmed as a console exclusive at launch, which means it’s probably also coming to Xbox at some point as well.

Star Wars FPS from Respawn

Respawn is also working on a new Star Wars first-person shooter with Peter Hirschmann as game director. Hirschmann is a former VP of development at LucasArts and served as executive producer on the original Battlefront games.  EA had released two Battlefront games, the most recent coming in 2017. We don’t know much about this game right now, but Hirschmann did hint that he’s “always been inspired by the classic Star Wars titles Dark Forces and Dark Forces II.”

Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars

When Lucasfilm Games announced they were opening up the doors to new developers who want to play in the Star Wars sandbox, one of the first games to be announced was Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game. The game is currently in development at Massive Entertainment, the Sweden-based studio behind The Division franchise and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game.

Star Wars Eclipse

Perhaps the most intriguing game in development right now is Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse. The studio behind multiple story-driven titles such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human is working on a new action-adventure set in the High Republic era. In typical Quantic Dream structure, it will be a multiple-character branching narrative. Star Wars Eclipse is early in development.

Star Wars strategy game from Respawn and Bit Reactor

The third Star Wars title in development at EA is a strategy game, currently in development through a production collaboration between Respawn and Bit Reactor. Bit Reactor is a newly formed studio founded by former Firaxis Games lead developers who helped build the critically acclaimed XCOM series. The game is being helmed by Greg Foerstch, former Art Director of XCOM 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Bit Reactor is leading development on this game with Respawn producing.

That’s all of the current Star Wars games in development right now. Which ones are you most excited for?
