Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is developing a major video game franchise movie
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has had a very successful career thus far. He is a future WWE Hall of Famer and a multimillion-dollar actor. In fact, The Rock’s net worth for 2021 was $400 million and he is one of the highest paid actors of all time. It is no secret that when The Rock stars in something, chances are that it is going to turn out to be a success.
However, one thing that Dwayne Johnson is no stranger to as of late are video game movies, and according to Mr. Johnson himself, he is currently working to bring a major video game franchise to the big screen. The Rock has previously starred in video game movies such as Doom, Rampage, and even Jumanji: The Next Level.
During a recent interview with Men’s Journal, The Rock confirmed that he is currently developing a new video game movie and one that, according to Dwayne Johnson, is “badass.” He is not allowed to say what franchise the video game is from, but I am hoping it won’t disappoint. The Rock further went on to tell Men’s Journal the following statement:
"I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years. I’m really excited to bring it to fans around the world. Of course, we’re going to do right by our gamer friends—but really, we’re just going to make a great movie."
While there is no confirmation on what exactly video game this will be about, speculation has already begun. The Rock brings up in his interview that he has always been a big fan of the Madden football franchise and while not many people think this is what it may be about, it shouldn’t be totally taken out of the question.
On December 28, 2021, the world lost an NFL Legend in John Madden. If The Rock made a movie about John Madden and it honored the life of John Madden, I think that would be a really cool concept for a movie. After all, they have made movies about Elton John and Queen as a way to honor their music and show us how everything all began, so I don’t think a Madden movie based on John Madden would be all that out of the question.
The only reason why I would have to agree with the community on why that may be more on the unlikely side of things is because The Rock refers to the new movie as “One of the biggest, most badass games on the screen.” The Madden video games are fun games but I never have heard a sports video game referred to as “badass.” From the description we are given in his interview, I envision a video game that is based on lots more action, such as Gears of War or Call of Duty. Dwayne Johnson is someone who plays a great role in action movies and combining that with his recent touch of video game movies, I think there is potential to create something amazing.

The good news that has come from this all is that we have been told that we should hear an announcement about the movie later on in 2022. I don’t expect the movie to be released in 2022, but an announcement is better than nothing and this news is kind of exciting. It appears as of late that there have been more and more movies being created about video games which is a great thing. It shows people who generally aren’t gamers that how in-depth video games actually are and that there are great stories that go along with each game.
