Horizon Forbidden West: 2022’s first big PlayStation exclusive
It was an unusually quiet holiday season for Sony which shockingly saw no blockbuster exclusive released for the PlayStation 5 in the latter couple of months. 2021 saw the release of some great PS5 exclusives, such as Returnal, Deathloop and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, but it looks like 2022 might top that. And it begins with Horizon Forbidden West.
The highly anticipated sequel to Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn is set to release on February 18, 2022 for PS4 and PS5. Horizon Forbidden West follows Aloy to distant, unexplored lands ravaged by vicious storms and unstoppable blight.
With humanity once again facing extinction, and no one certain as to why, she’ll try to uncover the secrets behind these threats and restore order and balance to the world. New tribes to meet, new machines to take down, and new lands to explore, Horizon Forbidden West will hopefully deliver that signature blockbuster experience we’ve become accustomed to on PlayStation.
With just two months until Horizon Forbidden West’s release, Sony has started to ramp up its marketing. Gameplay videos highlight new additions and features as well as new enemies players will encounter.
Once again, you’ll have to approach these machines with careful strategy. While Aloy’s Spear has been upgraded for close combat with a new set of combinations, her bow, with its specialized ammo, will still be key to toppling the machines.
Aloy’s assortment of gadgets and weapons will assist her in both combat and traversal. The Pullcaster speeds up climbing, allowing her to quickly escape from trouble. The Shieldwing allows her descend safely from great heights, allowing to her surprise enemies from above. The Diving Mask opens up an entirely new aspect of the world, allowing her to explore the underwater depths where secrets no doubt lie.
Traversal seems smoother and more free. Grapple points across the world allow her to easily climb and move around the environment, and she can use certain machines to assist in her traversal.
