Rainbow Six Extraction Pricing, post-launch content and Buddy Pass details
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is set to release on January 20, 2022, making it one of next year’s first big launches. Given that we’re just a few weeks away from the release of Ubisoft’s highly anticipated tactical co-op shooter, let’s go over everything we know about it, including the gameplay, post-launch and endgame content, and pricing.
What is Rainbow Six Extraction?
As I mentioned, Rainbow Six Extraction is a co-op tactical PvE shooter. Although you can play solo, the game is probably best meant to be played with others.
With the Chimera parasite reappearing across the United States, a squad of three REACT Operators must confront the Archæans. Rainbow Six Extraction is meant to have tons of variability in each playthrough.
There are 12 containment zones with an evolving and unstable ecosystem within. And within these zones, you’ll try and complete 13 tactical mission types with changing variables. Some missions might require you to extract intel from a contaminated zone while another might task you with hunting an elite Archæan.
There are a total of 18 Operators to choose from, each with their own unique abilities, progression paths, playstyles and customization options. As you build your team, there are over 800 possible squad combinations, meaning every experience should be unique and different.

Free Post-Launch Content
Ubisoft has a rather robust post-launch content program for Rainbow Six Extraction, and all of it will be free. The gist of it is challenging yourself beyond the initial missions in the game, min-maxing your build so that you can complete the toughest of challenges.
The Maelstrom Protocol is a weekly challenge mode with tiered ranks. This mode will be at launch and is meant with players with fully upgraded Operators. Each week, your squad chooses from a hand-picked roster of Operators to navigate through customized sub-zones that get progressively harder. The zones get progressively harder and your squad will either push to the end or fully extract to bank your points to a higher class.
Crisis Events are limited time intense events with new content, a new themed mode, and a new Operator or formidable foe to take down. Spillover is the first Crisis event with the objective to wipe out colonies of aliens.
And then there are Assignments, weekly gameplay modes that are designed to test your squads kills. These are basically modifiers that make the missions tougher.
Is Rainbow Six Extraction free-to-play?
Rainbow Six Extraction isn’t free, although it is a budget-priced title. What this means is you aren’t paying the standard $59.99 or $69.99 that a new game usually costs.
Rainbow Six Extraction costs just $39.99 for the Standard Edition and $49.99 for the Deluxe Edition, which includes three Bonus Packs:
- The Noxious Touch Pack
- The Obscura Pack
- The React Strike Pack
Both the Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition comes with a Buddy Pass. This allows you to invite two friends to play with you for free for 14 days, even if they don’t own the game. They are also able to play on any platform as Rainbow Six Extraction features full cross-play support.
Rainbow Six Extraction is set to release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Stadia, Luna, Epic Games and Ubisoft+ (Ubisoft’s PC monthly subscription service).
