Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout was one of 2020’s biggest surprise hits, but it was limited to only PC and PlayStation consoles. Earlier this year, it was announced that the obstacle-based multiplayer battle royale would be coming to Xbox and Nintendo Switch consoles this summer but that never actually happened. The Xbox and Switch versions were delayed as Mediatonic wanted to ensure features like crossplay and cross-progression would be supported on these new platforms.

For some reason, the Xbox and Switch versions of Fall Guys were linked to the release of Season 6 – Party Spectacular, probably because that was when cross-platform play and progression between PlayStation and PC would arrive. Unfortunately, it was around the release of Season 6 that Mediatonic confirmed the Xbox and Switch versions of Fall Guys would be pushed back.

"We know everyone’s excited about Fall Guy coming to Nintendo Switch™ and Xbox, with good reason. There’s been a lot of speculation on social media connecting these new console releases to the Season 6 launch and we want to clarify that that’s not the case so no one’s left confused looking for the game on these platforms."

Mediatonic assured fans that these additional versions of Fall Guys is one of their top priorities and in active development, so it’s not like they’ve put it on the backburner and delayed it indefinitely. They didn’t offer an updated timeline for when the Nintendo Switch version would come, but did promise more details in 2022.

For what it’s worth, Nintendo has Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout listed for release in 2022 and, honestly, I can’t imagine it would be pushed back beyond next year. Now in its sixth season, Fall Guys remains a popular online multiplayer game although I feel like it’s lost some of luster since it first released.

Part of what made Fall Guys so fun when it arrived in 2020 was how silly and crazy it was. It felt like a game that embraced casuals. Even my wife, who hates competitive video games, had a good time playing it. And during the peak of the pandemic, it provided plenty of great laughs with friends online. Despite how bad we were at the game, it felt like we at least had a chance at lucking into a win. Now, that’s not so much the case as the competitive aspect has started to take a hold thanks to streamers. I still enjoy Fall Guys and I look forward to its release on Nintendo Switch, but hopefully it can recapture some of its early magic.
