If you’re in the market for a PS5 or Xbox Series X this holiday season, you may want to be come an Amazon Prime member for at least the next couple of weeks. The online retail giant has quietly noted in listings for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X that “Amazon prime customers will be given priority access” when it comes to purchasing either next-gen console when they return in stock.

The note specifically mentions this priority access will be given through December 31, although it’s quite possible the could extend this perk beyond the date listed. Both consoles are currently out of stock and there’s no telling when they will return, although I imagine we’ll get some sort of shipment before Christmas.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are two of this year’s most in demand holiday items and have pretty much been sold out every year. The chip shortage coupled with high demand for the next-gen systems have led to holiday shortages at just about every retailers. While retailers have been able to restock throughout the shopping season, they sell out almost immediately.

Being given priority access to supply is just about your best hope in snagging one of these consoles this year but it’s far from a guarantee. You’ll still need to be quick to purchase one once they do return because I imagine just about everyone these days is a Prime member anyway.

If you aren’t an Amazon Prime member, you can become a member for just $12.99 a month or $119 for the year. Amazon also offers a free 30 day trial although if it’s like Walmart, with its Walmart+ early access to Black Friday deals, the priority access won’t apply to trial members. For what it’s worth, Amazon Prime is good for more than just a chance at an Xbox Series X or PS5, as you also receive additional perks like free two-day shipping, Prime Video, Prime Music and unlimited photo storage through Amazon Photos.
