11 new games coming to Xbox Game Pass this week
Microsoft is closing out 2021 with a bang, releasing 11 new games on Xbox Game Pass this week.
Arriving first is Among Us, which actually arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One today, December 15. We’ve been waiting a long time for Innersloth’s social deduction game to finally arrive on consoles and now it’s here, and free for those who are Xbox Game Pass subscribers. This is the latest version of the game which just saw the release of the Roles, Cosmicubes and Achievements update. Best of all, Among Us on Xbox supports cross play so you can murder friends (four to 15 player lobbies) no matter device they are playing on.
Meanwhile, there are 10 more games coming to Xbox Game Pass on December 16, including The Gunk which is a day one Game Pass title. But the highlight is probably Mortal Kombat 11, the latest installment in NetherRealm’s critically acclaimed fighting franchise.
The Gunk is an Xbox exclusive and Game Pass launch title meaning if you are a subscriber you won’t have to pay anything extra to play this game. It’s a story-driven action-adventure in which you play as Rani, a scavenger who arrives on an alien planet with her partner, Beck. The two discover the planet is corrupted with a black slime-like parasite, referred to as the Gunk, which is killing off the wildlife and planet itself. As you try and save the planet, mistrust forms between the two partners. Our review of The Gunk will be coming tomorrow, so be sure to check back!
Here are all 11 games arriving on Xbox Game Pass this week on December 16. All games are Cloud, Console and PC unless specifically noted.
- Among Us (Cloud) – Available now
- Ben 10: Power Trip
- Broken Age
- Firewatch
- The Gunk
- Lake
- Mortal Kombat 11
- PAW Patrol Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay
- Race with Ryan
- Record of Lodoss: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth
- Transformers: Battlegrounds
Of the games on this list, I’m most looking forward to trying out Firewatch and Lake. Firewatch is the first game developed by Campo Santo and released years ago, but I never got a chance to play it. The game received praise for its story, characters and dialogue and was nominated (and won) multiple awards.
Lake is an intriguing title as well. The graphics won’t blow you away, but the sheer concept is pretty fascinating. You play as Meredith Weiss, a career woman taking a break from her busy life in the city. She travels to her hometown in Providence Oaks where she delivers mail and experiences the quirky lake community. I’ll admit, it’s a weird premise, but it sounds like exactly the type of game someone who enjoyed Life is Strange could get into.
