As it turns out, the Xbox Series S was not the most popular video game console during the early Black Friday holiday season shopping. NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United Sales, has revealed that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console during the month of November.

According to the latest report, 1.13 million Nintendo Switch consoles were sold during the month. This, of course, includes all three models: the standard Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch Lite and the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model.

The Nintendo Switch was also the most popular video game console during the “holiday-shopping week of Thanksgiving.” Nearly 550,000 Nintendo Switch units were sold during the week, which also includes Black Friday.

Perhaps more impressive, the Nintendo Switch has been the top-selling console for 35 of the last 36 months.

Now it’s worth mentioning that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have been in short supply this holiday season, and for much of the last year. Since both next-gen consoles released in 2020, they’ve been hard to find anywhere, a result of high demand and limited production due to the chip shortage. Although Nintendo is also likely dealing with chip shortages and other supply issues hampering just about every industry.

The Switch, while not as powerful as the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, has other things going for it. It’s budget friendly, for one. The Nintendo Switch Lite can be purchased for as little as $199.99, giving gamers access to an incredible catalog of Nintendo games for relatively cheap compared to the competition.

Secondly, as I mentioned, Nintendo boasts an incredible library of games. Just this year alone, the Switch saw games like Metroid Dread, Monster Hunter Rise, New Pokemon Snap, Mario Party Superstars, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and more. That’s not including past releases The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

You have to figure everyone who wants a Switch by now probably has one so it will be interesting to see how sales shake out in 2022.
