Antagonist teams in the Pokemon series ranked by fit checks
1. Team Magma
Yup, Team Magma. The team themselves is silly beyond belief. Causing a global drought in order to make more land for Pokemon to run around on is ridiculously silly, even more so than Team Aqua’s plan to flood the place as a flooded planet can support itself way better than a dry planet, looking at you, Mars. But, visually, the grunt look ticks off every box I want from a good grunt uniform.
First off, the thermal lines similar to that of the things you would wear whilst dealing with hot objects are functional but also really unique and interesting looking without being goofy. The sleeves coming out of the tiny shirt create a really satisfying aesthetic making it’s wearer look tall and slim. And speaking of the tiny shirt, that hood is amazing. It’s simple and the little horns are like “Say you worship Groudon without saying you worship Groundon.”
Not only that but remember how I kept going on about teams stealing all the good fashion for the upper crust? Not here. Check out Courtney, one of their top people.
She’s absolutely adorable. And while her costume has a lot of changes from the standard grunt outfit, it just looks like she’s holding a higher rank without being too “extra” than the rest. Her horns are only a different color. The jacket gives off the appearance of a high-ranking official in the military. The gloves are still similar with a color scheme that looks like she earned it, plus they match the gold of the horns completing the look.
Long story short, it looks like Team Magma came up with an amazing look and, instead of hiding it away in the upper offices, realized the best PR move would be to share that look with the grunts. In fact, I think the grunts actually look better than most of the higher-ranking people in Team Magma, especially considering Maxie, their leader, looks like a low-level Team Flare scientist.
Anyways, that’s my personal ranking of the main eight teams. I left out the Aether Corporation because they’re not much of an antagonist team as much as just their leader is a low-key villain unbeknownst to the majority of them. And I left out Macro Cosmos because, honestly, they’re boring as hell and we never really learn anything about them other than the fact that they look and act like corporate tools trying to impress people at a Holiday Inn job fair.
Let me know what you think of the list, or, more likely, let me know why I’m wrong. Did I miss mentioning a team from the mainline series? Let me know below.
