Marvel’s Avengers first Raid, Discordant Sound, arrives today
Marvel’s Avengers has been out for over a year now and only today does the superhero action adventure get its first Raid. With Patch 2.2, which arrives today, comes Discordant Sound.
The new Raid aims to provide end-game content to challenge high-level strike teams. It picks up after the events of the War for Wakanda expansion, so it’s possible you may need to complete that before embarking on this new adventure. Here’s the setup for the raid:
"Shuri, the newly appointed Queen Regent, informs Black Panther and the Avengers of a new threat that could destroy Wakanda. Corrupted Vibranium has infested the Great Mound and is spreading through the Wakandan jungle, heralding the return of the sonic monster Klaw. Our Heroes find Mena Ngai swarming with Klaw’s forces and a large sonic barrier blocking the entrance to the mines. Wakanda’s greatest warriors join forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to stop the giant Klaw from realizing his devastating vengeance against Wakanda."
Discordant Sound will require power Level 150 and a full party of four. Make sure you’ve got a variety of heroes as synergy between the roles is an important factor to consider before jumping in. There are mechanical challenges beyond just DPS-checks.
The raid is designed to challenge both your combat skills as well as your mind as it features new enemies, environments and puzzles to solve. If you’re looking for a greater challenge, there’s an Elite version of the Raid (available at PL 160) with tougher enemies who are more dangerous than their normal counterparts. Check out the recent blog that goes into more depth regarding the Discordant Sound Raid for more details.
Also swinging into Marvel’s Avengers today with the patch is the long-awaited new hero, Spider-Man. The beloved web-slinger is only available on PlayStation consoles today. This is a PlayStation exclusive character who, unfortunately, will not be coming to Xbox or PC at any point in the future.
Spider-Man arrives in “Spider-Man: With Great Power Hero Event” where Peter Parker partners with the Avengers to stop AIM from acquiring technology that would advance their Synthoid army. Spider-Man is no stranger to video games and in this version, he’s “a conscientious and cautious early-20-something Hero who is still adjusting to balancing his double life as Spider-Man.”
Spider-Man brings an entirely new kit of abilities to Marvel’s Avengers. His webs are the core of his kit, used to swing and zip around maps but also close distances in combat. His webbed attacks build up a unique Webbed status effect. Once the Web Status meter on an enemy is full, they become immobilized and vulnerable to attacks from any Avenger, making Spider-Man a wonderful support character for any team.
This is one of the largest updates Marvel’s Avengers has seen. And although the game had received mixed reception upon launch, the continuous updates have turned it into an enjoyable experience. It’s still not the multiplayer action-adventure we had probably envisioned, but it’s a solid game to play with friends if you want to step into the suit of an Avenger.
