A little over a year ago, we reviewed 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, a sci-fi epic involving 13 intertwining storylines, and came away incredibly impressed. Developed by Vanillaware, the studio behind Odin Sphere and Dragon’s Crown, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is a 2D side-scrolling adventure in which you must defend humanity against the kaiju. You play as 13 different young pilots and their mech sentinels.

But in what sounds like a fairly generic story set up, actually turned out to be a gem of a game — and one that was nominated as Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2020. That’s because of the way the story was told and the mystery that unfolds throughout.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim tells its story through 13 different characters. All of their individual stories — involving time travel, love triangles, aliens, science, social issues and more — intertwine and connect to build something fascinating and worth experiencing. If you didn’t do so on the PlayStation 4 back when it was released, you’ll soon be able to do so on the Nintendo Switch.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim will make its Nintendo Switch debut on April 12, 2022. Switch specific features or details weren’t mentioned in the announcement trailer, but you figure the highlight is the ability the take your game with you on-the-go.

In terms of special features or anything else, Atlus didn’t specifically mention anything. The graphics and presentation for 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, while gorgeous, aren’t terribly demanding so it should run just fine on the Nintendo Switch.

The combat involves putting together teams of pilots and utilizing their individual skills to form combinations and strategies for various enemy types. It’s fast-paced action but, again, nothing the Switch can’t probably handle.

We’ll hopefully learn more about the Switch release of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim as we head into the New Year. The game is set to release for the console on April 12, 2022.
