Nintendo Switch: 5 must-buy games for younger kids this holiday season
The holiday season is right around the corner, and like most things hiding just around the corner, it wants your wallet. This time of year is big for gifting games and if your kids or the kids you’re buying for or just some random kid (ask their parents first, weirdo) has a Nintendo Switch, there’s a wealth of options available to you.
But just because there’s a lot of games doesn’t make them all good. Like I’ve mentioned in the past, a lot of companies that design games for kids only do so knowing that kids have absolutely no buying power and they take advantage of that by selling children subpar garbage. Let’s avoid that.
Come on and window shop with me and I’ll give you a couple of ideas for younger kids that won’t end up collecting dust by January.
Mario Party Superstars
While Mario Party Superstars not the only Mario Party game on the Nintendo Switch, it’s honestly the better one. At first you might look at Super Mario Party and feel it would be better for your kids because of the motion controls but hear me out. My kids are 6- and 8-years-old and I thought that too, only to discover that the motion controls are so poor it left my kids constantly feeling like they weren’t doing anything right. That’s not what you want out of something your kids are doing.
Mario Party Superstars is a fun game for the whole family which can be played with a single Joy-Con meaning that if you have two sets you can do four players.
In this board game, you roll dice and move about the board collecting stars and points for a set amount of turns. After each person takes their turn, a mini-game is played, and the winner is given bonus coins. This can be anything from a snowball fight to dodging penguins to using a jackhammer to chisel out a piece of art. Each mini-game is fun and most can be played using one to two buttons making it easy for anyone to pick up and play.
