The next major update for Among Us is said to be coming soon and one of the big things it will bring is a new role: the Shapeshifter. The Shapeshifter is actually just another version of the Imposter but with new abilities that will help them in their goal to eliminate the Crewmates.

Innersloth gave us a sneak peek of the Shapeshifter in action, and from what I can tell, it’s going to cause some serious confusion and chaos among the Crewmates. That’s because the Shapeshifter has the ability to change their appearance and disguise themselves as other living Crewmates.

Here’s a quick look at the Shapeshifter gameplay. As you’ll see, the Shapeshifter can pull up a menu containing all the other living Crewmates and can then morph into one of them, displaying their name, color and cosmetics.

Now you probably don’t need me to tell you the potential this could have on a game. You can cause some serious confusion and doubt among the Crewmates but be careful; you can only shapeshift for a limited amount of time (unless lobby settings are changed). Also, Crewmates can see you midway through shapeshifting if you are within their line of sight, so you’ll want to make sure you’re alone before using the ability.

Also, you do leave behind some evidence of your shapeshift in the form of a black puddle of goo. This could be incredibly helpful if you happen to see the same Crewmate run past you two times in a row, or something shifty.

The Shapeshifter ability won’t be in every game. You’ll actually be able to change the number and chance of an Impostor having the Shapeshift ability or even turn it off completely. You can also change how long an Impostor can stay shifted as well as whether or not they leave behind shapeshift evidence after morphing.

We don’t know exactly when this new update for Among Us will arrive but it sounds like it will be coming soon. Innersloth teased a “special event coming up VERY SOON” that will contain more information about the release. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts on the new Shapeshifter role in the comments below!
