Pokemon Cafe ReMix did not delete your progress (sort of)

Today (October 28th, 2021 for time travelers) the newest version of Pokemon Cafe Mix, entitled Pokemon Cafe ReMix, went live. If you played or have been playing the first version you probably got a little mad when you went on to see what ReMix had to offer only to find yourself VERY limited.

See, ReMix changed things up a bunch. How you discover new recipes, how you level up your characters, which Pokemon you encounter, it’s all been changed while keeping the gameplay sort of the same.

In some cases the changes are really good. For example, every Pokemon has three strengths so picking Eevee in a stage with sugar cubes will mean sometimes it’ll destroy a sugar cube or two with a single move instead of three.

But if you’re a veteran of the game, the reason you probably felt the floor drop wasn’t because of the new features. It probably revolved around the fact that you started at level one with ONLY Eevee.

Yup. Pokemon Cafe Remix wants you to start at the very VERY beginning. Me, personally, I was on level 200-and-change when this happened. Luckily though, you didn’t lose the Pokemon, including those super special ones you got through events or packs. You…just have to get through 10 stages worth of tutorials before it lets you know so as far as I knew, they were all gone.

Also, if you have any special versions of Pokemon like “Sweets” Pikachu, it’s now a costume. Thought I lost those as well. But they’re all there.

There are some new elements though that are…not great. First off, they pulled a Fortnite and decided to switch to a season pass system so if you’re looking to work to unlock stuff you’ll have to do that, at a price.

They also removed the teams and friends. I checked my friend list to find it completely empty and the great team I had put together was gone.

Finally, they made upgrading the cafe a lot more boring. You unlock additions VERY fast and when you do, the majority of the visual upgrades are already there as opposed to getting to do another stage to unlock them leaving out a lot of the dopamine hits neurodivergent gamers like myself play this for.

I’m genuinely confused by this. I get revamping your game to get people interested but starting everyone back at the beginning in a game with over 1,000 stages? Seems like ReMix needed to be ReThought. Just glad I got to keep Torterra. That boy was as easy to unlock as he’d be to carry.
