Every N64 launch game for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Starfox 64
While the original Starfox was an absolute gem on the SNES, Starfox 64 added a ton of improvements to the game to create something unforgettable. The ability to turn around and hit bosses from the other side added a whole new level of tactics to your standard rail shooter.
It was also really nice to hear the characters actually sounded when they talked. As someone who played the original Starfox into the ground in my youth, I have a massive soft spot for the originals “BAH, BA-BA-BAH BAH” sounding voices. But actually hearing what they have to say and not reading a text box while dodging bullets is very welcome.
It’s still a bit jarring to see after all these years as the game features some of the biggest and sharpest polygons in gaming history. And the cut scenes, while very impressive for the time, look like a Lawnmower Man nightmare in 2021.
Replay value comes from the fact that there are not only stages with multiple paths but also whole planets you can only explore by taking the correct path.
