Mythic Quest really found its footing during its second season and concluded on an optimistic note; but, one that also had me hopeful that the Apple TV+ series would be renewed for another season. As I previously wrote, the Season 2 finale, “TBD,” served as a perfect season, and possibly series finale, as Mythic Quest had technically not been renewed at the time.

While the team was scattered and on their own diverging paths, everyone left on good terms. Ian Grimm (Rob McElhenney) and Poppy Li (Charlotte Nicdao) — co-creators of the fantasy MMO Mythic Quest — left to form their own studio and focus on a brand new game (Hera). Brad was hauled off to jail for insider trading, but went out like a total badass. Rachel is starting her writing program at Berkeley while Dana is attending a programming school nearby. David and Jo were really the only two left at Mythic Quest HQ, but they seemed content with what the future could hold.

If the series were to end with “TBD,” I think we’d all be fine with how things left off. But I know most fans, myself included, want to see what comes next with this hilarious ragtag group of video game developers.

Thankfully, we’ll get to see how their stories continue. Apple TV+ renewed Mythic Quest for two more seasons (Season 3 & 4). And we won’t have to wait too long either.

The writers’ room for season three will open later this year, with the new season set to premiere sometime in 2022. We don’t know when Season 4 will come, but at least we know there will be one.

Shows focused on the video game industry can often come off as over-the-top and and campy, but Mythic Quest has managed to strike a nice balance between comedy and drama. The characters are layered, well-developed and have emotional arcs that resonate with viewers. It’s not just cheesy joke after cheesy joke. There is usually an emotional and heartfelt message to be told, especially with Season 2. I can’t wait to see what the next two seasons entail.
