Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise Paid DLC

Nintendo announced there is going to be paid DLC that comes out on November 5th as well. It’s called the Happy Home Paradise and it’s exactly what you think it is.

If you’re familiar with the excellent but rarely talked about Happy Home Designer for the 3DS, this is pretty much that but more. Here’s what all it’s going to do.

  • “I Want to Go to Work”
    • Going into the airport and choosing this option will allow you to fly to Lottie’s island.
  • Lottie Returns!
    • Lottie, the de facto leader of the designers, makes her return as your boss.

Design Vacation Homes

On Lottie’s island, random villagers will show up asking for vacation homes that have particular themes. Pick out the island you think will work best for them and design a home featuring the kind of them they want. Decorate both the interior and exterior.

New Interior Home Options

In addition to just placing furniture, you’ll be able to design the width and length of the room. You’ll be able to create partition walls to make a room multifunctional or do things like adding a dining nook to a kitchen. You’ll also be able to adjust counter heights to create a low shelving unit or a bar-like countertop.

Other big features!

  • Utilize soundscapes to really enrich the theme of the home. One example they showed was a construction enthusiast’s home having the sound of city workers faintly in the background.
  • Pillars can also be added for effect.
  • POKI Currency for Working
    • For designing and getting jobs done you’ll earn POKI currency.
    • This new currency can be used to buy rare furniture from the island store.
  • Customize Buildings on the Island Itself
    • There are also several vacant buildings on the island that will occasionally need to be done.
    • These will be things like designing a school, a hospital, a restaurant and more.
  • Amiibo Card Functionality
    • You will be able to use Amiibo cards to invite particular characters to your island.
    • One example they showed was them designing a place for Isabelle.
  • Increasing Your Furniture Index
    • As you complete more jobs you’ll unlock more furniture and decor options for you to design with.
    • Don’t think we didn’t notice you sneaking the long-requested Froggy Chair in there, Nintendo.
  • Polishing Furniture
    • You’ll be able to polish furniture which will make them shine.
    • Some furniture will gain new visual effects as well such as having butterflies fluttering around them.
  • Bring Home Gifts
    • Bringing back gifts from Lottie’s island and gifting them to the villagers might interest them in making vacation homes too.
  • More Design Options for Your Island
    • If you put in enough work on Lottie’s Island you’ll become so renowned that you’ll also be able to redesign the homes of the villagers on your own island!
    • You’ll also be able to apply new things to your personal home like the wall partitions and the like.

The Retail Price

Nintendo announced that the  Happy Home Paradise add-on can be purchased for $24.99. They also stated that it will be included for free with Nintendo’s new online “Expansion Pack” as a thing alongside the N64 Channel and the SEGA Channel. They also mentioned that it will be available as a standalone game for people without New Horizons.
