Madden 22 has its newest 99 Club member and I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is officially a 99 overall rating in the game.

Tucker began the season with a 87 overall in Madden 22 but received a massive 13-point boost to his overall following his NFL record-setting 66-yard field goal to defeat the Detroit Lions in Week 3.

Tucker is the first kicker in Madden history to boast a 99 overall, but unfortunately, it will only last for a limited time. That’s because of the way ratings are calculated in Madden.

Since ratings for special teams players like kickers and punters aren’t calculated on separate scales from the rest of the positions, there would likely be no way for someone like Justin Tucker — one of the best kickers in the history of the league — to achieve the coveted 99 rating unless boosting other stats besides the two main ones of Kick Power and Kick Accuracy.

Tucker already had 99 Kick Power and 97 Kick Accuracy in the game so boosting the latter another two points was unlikely to get him into the 99 Club. So the ratings adjustors likely had to boost some of his other stats, such as Awareness and perhaps a few others, to 99 in order to achieve the prestigious 99 overall. Obviously boosting other stats throw off the balance of the game as players would then be able to sub him into positions he wouldn’t normally otherwise play.

The 31-year-old Tucker is about as good as it gets when it comes to the position. He boasts a 90.6% field goal percentage, having made 298 of a total 329 field goals. He’s never missed a kick between 20-29 yards (76 of 76) and has only missed three (88 of 91) within the 30-39 range. He’s made a whopping 44 of his 62 attempts from 50-plus yards. Suffice to say, Justin Tucker deserves to be in Madden 99 Club.

As of this week’s roster update there will now be six total players in Madden 22’s 99 Club: Aaron Donald, Davante Adams, Jalen Ramsey, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and now Justine Tucker. DeAndre Hopkins, Myles Garrett, Tyreek Hill and Zack Martin all sit on the outskirts with a 98 overall rating.
