Palamute become Palamoot when Monster Hunter Rise adds Rush from Mega Man

Monster Hunter games have a long history of collaborations with other Capcom titles, whether these makes sense or not. Monster Hunter World gave us the option to play as both Ryu and Sakura from Street Fighter complete with the ability to do a hadoken. They also gave us the ability to dress up link Dante from Devil May Cry complete with his signature sword.

Past games have had crossovers with everything from Lost Planet to Phoenix Wright. Occasionally they even go outside the realm of Capcom giving us everything from the ability to play as Snake from Metal Gear or Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. Possibly the worst one was the ability to swap your weapon out for an official Pizza Hut over spatula with a pizza on it. No joke.

But there has always been one franchise that when crossing over with Monster Hunter, Capcom has shown the utmost respect to and that is Mega Man. Mega Man crossovers have always had a ridiculous amount of care put into them, most of the time affecting your Palico companion (though Monster Hunter Frontier Z did give you the ability to craft armor for your hunter). I’ve seen past games do incredibly detailed Mega Man armor with a Rush-themed weapon for the Palico. A Mega Man armor that changed colors based on the attack your Palico was doing. Monster Hunter World had an amazing one that not only turned your Palico into an 8-Bit Mega Man but also gave it a functional Buster Cannon. I thought that wouldn’t be able to be topped but DAMN did Capcom prove me wrong.

In the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise x Mega Man collab event, they step away from the Palico and focus on the newest companion, the Palamute. Starting September 24th, an event will give you layered armor for your Palamute that doesn’t just make your Palamute look like Rush…it becomes Rush.

I’m in awe. I love Rush deeply. When I was a kid I used to draw Rush all the time. I have built the Japanese mold of him that came out around the turn of the century that transforms into Rush Jet. I think he has one of the coolest designs to come out of Mega Man ever and you can have him fight with you.

And it’s not simply a cosmetic swap either. Not only does it change several of its signature sounds but if you sprint while riding Rush, he comes the RUSH JET!!!

I am always excited for crossover events in Monster Hunter but I have never been this excited. I don’t even care that pretty much everyone is going to by sporting one of these. Rush is the goodest boy in video gaming and I welcome a legion of these rolling with my squad. Plus, if you pause the video around 35 seconds in you’ll see that you can customize its color so that you can kind of make yours stand out a bit.

Oh, and if you jump off it’s back…Rush Coil. Oh my god, that touch. I don’t think you’re actually bouncing higher but I am willing to channel that part of me that used to believe that Reebok Catapults and British Knights Diamond Cells added to my verticle leap and just pretend that I absolutely gained a foot or two.

Now give me the ability to turn my Palamute into Tango and my Cohoot into Beat and I’m never leaving the game.
