PS5 new games in July 2021: A slow month with some intriguing indies
PlayStation 5 gamers have been spoiled these past couple of months. MLB The Show 21, Returnal, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are just a few of the gems we’ve gotten. But now it’s July and Summer is usually the slow period for game releases. And that is definitely evident when looking at the list of PS5 games releasing in July.
- A Plague Tale: Innocence – July 6
- Where the Heart Leads – July 13
- F1 2021 – July 16
- Cris Tales – July 20
- Last Stop – July 22
- Tribes of Midgard – July 27
- Samurai Warriors 5 – July 27
- Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles – July 27
- Eldest Souls – July 29
- Fuga: Melodies of Steel – July 29
- Little Devil Inside – TBA
Like I mentioned, it’s a pretty weak month. That’s not a knock on any of the games listed above, but moreso that we’ve been spoiled with the sheer number of blockbuster games we’ve had early on this year.
Even aside from first-party PlayStation games, we’ve had Resident Evil: Village, Outriders, Mass Effect Legendary Edition and more. So there’s hopefully plenty in your backlog to get you through the summer doldrums.
Unlike Xbox and Nintendo, PlayStation didn’t participate in the E3 festivities so we really don’t know what’s in store for the PS5 this year. We know some of the third-party titles coming our way, including Madden NFL 22, Battlefield 2042, Far Cry 6, Back 4 Blood, and more. But I want to know what Sony specifically has up its sleeves.
In the meantime, there are a few intriguing games coming in July. Where the Heart Leads is one I’m particularly interested in. It’s a narrative-driven adventure where the choices you make impact how the story unfolds.
Cris Tales is another one worth checking out. This is a gorgeous, indie love letter to classic JRPGs like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. What’s cool about this game is that you can look into the past and act in the present. The choices you make don’t only impact the present, but you can witness how they dynamically change the future as well all on screen at once. Naturally, Cris Tales features strategic turn-based combat and is brought to life with beautiful hand-drawn 2D animations.
