Battle of the Looter Shooters in 2021: Which one is for you?
Endgame – Destiny 2
Destiny 2 has the best endgame of these four titles just from the fact that there are raids. They have some really desirable loot for the difficulty, the need for team coordination, and stat checks. Not only are there raids, but there are daily and weekly strikes with beefed up difficulties and modifiers. You also have the occasional events that cycle, the Crucible, Trials of Osiris, Gambit. There is a healthy endgame that provides choices for players who have grinded for several hours.
2. Outriders
When you have optimized gear to do the job, the fun in Outriders expands massively. While expeditions are the meat and potatoes of the endgame, you really have to focus on what you go up against or you can easily fall in the blink of an eye. The sheer difficulty is something that’s really refreshing because not only is this like a stat check to see if your gear is up to snuff. You also have to be adept at the game and really know the core mechanics because gear can only carry you so far.
3. Borderlands 3
The endgame does seem somewhat scarce as you really look into the more challenging activities. You have the three Circles of Slaughter missions, the six Trial missions, two Takedowns, and one classic replayable Raid Boss. It seems like a healthy amount of content to take on, but with a decent build, a lot of the endgame content can be trivialized.
4. Warframe
I’m primarily a Warframe player and I can say that this game only has a smidgen of endgame material. There are 30 mastery ranks to achieve, but you can take on the more “elite” content by rank 10 with an adequate build and decent weapons. I have seen players in Sorties or Steel Path missions that were half my level who sometimes carry the team. There aren’t any sort of “true” endgame missions that require players to hone their movement and combat prowess akin to something like the now-retired raids.
