Derrick Henry (Tennessee Titans)

While any of the aforementioned players would be great candidates for the cover of Madden 22, it’s Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry who is rumored to actually be the cover athlete. While obviously not confirmed, a leaked GameStop document showed Henry as the cover athlete. However, the document did feature a design that isn’t typical of the Madden franchise so it was either placeholder or wrong.

Either way, Henry would be a well-deserved cover athlete. The 27-year-old running back has been the key piece in the Titans offense, carrying the bulk of the load the past three seasons.

Henry has led the league in rushing yards the past two seasons. After running for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2019, Henry topped his own performance last year with 2,2027 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2020. With nearly 700 carries the past two seasons combined, Henry has been an absolute workhorse and one of the most durable backs in the league.

The Titans rode Henry into the playoffs in 2019, defeating the New England Patriots in the Wild Card Round. THey then upset the heavily favored top-seeded Ravens in the Divisional Round to advance to the AFC Championship Game where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl LIV champion Kansas City Chiefs. It was a miraculous playoff run by an overachieving Titans team that relied heavily on Henry.

Last year, the Titans improved upon their 9-7 record from the previous season and earned their first division title since 2008. But even with Henry, their one-dimensional offense could only carry them so far and they were knocked out of the Wild Card round.

The point is, none of this playoff success would even be possible without Derrick Henry toting the rock and alleviating the pressure from quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Now get this man some more help on offense and make him the cover athlete of Madden 22.
