The Last Campfire
Developed by Hello Games
Stop me if you’ve heard this one. You’re a silent character in an ornate cloak that is on a mysterious quest that may or may not be a metaphor for something more. But this “journey” through a “valley of monuments” is more than just that.
The Last Campfire stars the young Ember whose ADHD got him lost from his group whilst on a journey and he ended up stranded and alone. Ember must make his way through puzzles of all sorts while learning how to deal with being alone and finding a purpose.
Along the way you try to discover the secrets of the blue flames around you as you encounter clues and ghosts.
And while the ending is absolutely exactly what you think it’s going to be as oh my god why wouldn’t it be the journey (no relation) is worth it as the game is visually stunning.
Not only that but the game is expertly narrated so while your character is coping with loneliness you don’t have to personally deal with isolation these sorts of games normally force you to feel along with.
While The Last Campfire doesn’t reinvent the wheel on this sort of game, it’s only five hours long and makes for a gorgeous playthrough.
