I don’t understand how I missed it. Honestly. I’ve had a Mac for years, I constantly complain about a lack of games for it, and yet… I completely missed the Apple Arcade. It existed solely as a tab on the App Store and, admittedly, I never open the App Store.

But over time I started peaking in and seeing Apple Arcade advertised and, I got pulled in. Especially at $4.99 a month, I figured it couldn’t hurt.

10 out of 10, would recommend. It’s pretty great. For the most part, there isn’t a massive wealth of games and most of the games are ones that are more designed for short gameplay moments on the iPhone or a tablet, but there are a ton that also offers a deep wealth of gameplay.

As of right now, April 2021, here are, in my opinion, the top 10 games on Apple Arcade you should absolutely try out. In no particular order.

Fantasian

Developer: Mistwalker

We talked about this game earlier and it’s definitely a huge draw for the Apple Arcade. Produced and written by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the guy behind practically every famous RPG including the vast majority of Final Fantasy games, you know exactly what you’re getting into story-wise with this game. A protagonist with no memory, a healer who finds you in a flower patch, it checks all the classic boxes.

What makes this game unique is it’s visuals. The characters and battles all take place in real-life, hand-built dioramas. It’s not to make you look like you live in a model. I mean they actually made realistic dioramas. It creates some stunning moments that cause you to just stop and appreciate what’s around you.

Not only that but the battles are made interesting by a new magic mechanic. Fans of older Final Fantasy games will be no stranger to the turn-based battle system, but what makes them fun is that you can put a spin on your spells. Curving a fireball will allow you to hit multiple enemies at once. It can also allow you to hit enemies hiding behind shields or guards.

With the new mechanics and the stunning visuals, this is a massive, gorgeous RPG that constantly throws new things at you and, honestly, provides you with an insane amount of models to just gawk at.
