VOEZ

VOEZ has been around for a while, originally releasing for the Nintendo Switch back in 2017 (yes, I forgot the Switch was around that long too) it was the first digital game I downloaded on my Switch and I still occasionally throw it up and play it.

Originally a mobile release, VOEZ had an exceptional translation to a Switch title doing away with it’s free-to-play, download bits and pieces mobile strategy for a full-priced release where you had access to everything out the gate. They also made the controls work in a variety of ways. You can use your controller if you insist on playing on the TV or you can keep the original touch screen controls which work remarkably well here.

You may think that a fast-paced rhythm game isn’t the most relaxing thing on Earth but Voez specializes in really good trance and EDM and when you get in the groove it’s a remarkably transcendent experience. My personal favorite is a song called “Run Lads Run” where it genuinely feels like you’re playing the piano once you get into the flow of it.

With a remarkably amount of songs to play, difficulties and play styles to mess with and the occasional and completely optional light story VOEZ is a guaranteed hit for fans of rhythm games.

Not only that but put your system in handheld mode, put the screen flat in front of you on a flat surface, plug in some headphones and feel the world melt away around you as you lose yourself in the music.
