Miami Marlins

The NL East is brutal, and the Miami Marlins will need a lot to go right in order to have a shot at the playoffs two years in a row. Fangraphs gives them a .7% chance to make the playoffs. That said, there is a lot to like about this team. They only have a couple of players making over $9M a year (Starling Marte and Corey Dickerson), both of whom are very good, movable players to help reshape your team, either netting you a coveted prospect or a couple of good players at other positions.

You also have really cheap, good players all around the field:

  • 3B Brian Anderson
  • 1B Jesus Aguilar
  • SS Miguel Rojas
  • 2B Jon Berti
  • C Jorge Alfaro
  • 2B Isan Diaz

There’s so many young players, you’re going to have to choose who you want to keep and who to move for a bigger piece. Not even counting their Top 100 prospects (P Edward Cabrera, SS Jazz Chisholm, P Max Meyer, OF JJ Bleday and P Sixto Sanchez), the Marlins are flush with young pitchers in their rotation and bench, including players like:

  • OF Lewis Brinson
  • OF Magneuris Sierra
  • OF Monte Harrison

The thing about the Marlins is you’ll always be somewhat limited by your payroll. Maybe you can afford 1 or 2 highly paid players, but mostly you’ll have to find bargains for $12M or less, which is very doable in MLB The Show 21. Move some of these prospects for young, under team control players already making an impact in the majors and you’ll be able to compete for years.
