MLB The Show 21: How to sign up for the Tech Test on Xbox and PlayStation
MLB The Show 21 is set to release on April 20, 2021, and as well all know by now, it will be the first game in the franchise to come to multiple platforms. Typically a PlayStation exclusive franchise, MLB The Show 21 will also be releasing on the Xbox family of consoles.
It will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Furthermore, online cross-play will be available across platforms. PlayStation users will be able to play with Xbox users and those within the same console ecosystem (PS5 and PS4, for example) will also be able to play together.
To ensure cross-play runs smoothly at launch, Sony San Diego is hosting a Tech Test for MLB The Show 21 this month. The Tech Test will run from February 23 (10am PT) through March 1 (10am PT) and will be available for PlayStation and Xbox.
How to sign up for the MLB The Show 21 Tech Test on PlayStation or Xbox
Signing up for the Tech Test is super simple! All you have to do is go here and choose to sign up for PlayStation or Xbox. I did PlayStation, which simply required me to choose PS5 or PS4 and then login with my PSN account. I assume it’s similar with Xbox.
The registration period for the Tech Test closes on February 15 at 10 am PT.
If you are selected for the Tech Test, PlayStation users will receive a notification on their console when it’s available to download. On Xbox, it will be through the Xbox Insider Hub.
What’s included in the Tech Test?
The purpose of the Tech Test is to test out cross-platform play. Because of that, the focus isn’t necessarily on the content or gameplay, so the only modes available will be (Diamond Dynasty) vs CPU, (Diamond Dynasty) Events, (Diamond Dynasty) Casual, (Diamond Dynasty) Play with Friends; and Battle Royale. All progress in these modes will be wiped prior to launch and none of the player attributes are final
Because this is a tech test, no streaming, video or screenshot sharing is allowed. This probably also means you won’t see or hear any impressions of the gameplay. If you do participate in the tech test, there will be a special private forum for feedback.
