2. Ilya Sorokin (New York Islanders, G, 80 Overall)

The only new goalie that has been added into the game is Ilya Sorokin. The New York Islanders goaltender made his NHL debut on January 16, 2021 against their rival New York Rangers. In his first and only appearance of the season Sorokin gave up 5 goals on 32 shot attempts. This wasn’t the best first outing that he could have expected, but nonetheless it was his first ever NHL game. You can’t really blame the guy for letting up five goals in his first game.

I do not expect to see Ilya Sorokin to get an overwhelming amount of starts this year figuring he is the backup for Semyon Varlamov and Varlamov has been out to a spectacular start to his 2021 campaign with a 3-0-0 record, 0.33GA, .988SV%, and 2 shutouts to go with all that. Those are un-human like numbers and makes me wonder if Varlamov is actually a machine rather than human. With a start like that, it is going to be hard to see Sorokin get many starts.

As far as NHL 21 goes, Ilya Sorokin has been given an 80 overall. An 80 overall is a very respectable rating for a rookie goalie, especially when EA is giving out the ratings.
