New Mario Red & Blue Edition Nintendo Switch gives the console a plumber-tastic makeover
The Nintendo Switch is getting a full Mario-style makeover with the first full color variation since the console hit shelves in 2017.
Despite the Switch’s massive popularity, special editions are few and far between. Ever since the system debuted in March 2017, it’s only ever been available in one color: black. While accompanying Joy-Con controllers and docks have received the redesign treatment with whimsical pastels for Animal Crossing: New Horizons and royal blue and gold for Fortnite, the core system has remained unchanged, until now.
Just in time for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury to hit the handheld/console hybrid, Nintendo is releasing the Mario Red & Blue Edition Switch. The eye-catching bundle includes a glossy red dock and core system that matches Mario’s signature long-sleeved shirt and iconic hat. The system comes with a pair of red Joy-Con controllers with blue straps, and a matching blue Joy-Con grip.
The bundle also comes packing several other goodies, like a Switch carrying case emblazoned with silhouettes of Mario and his crew, overalls, and other fun shapes. It includes bright blue trim and yellow details, all calling to mind Mario’s familiar outfit, composed of the three primary colors. There’s also a screen protector to help keep your shiny new system as pristine as possible while staving off pesky scuffs and smudges.
The bundle is set to debut for $299.99 on February 12, but that’s still a ways off. Luckily, you can enjoy plenty of other Mario adventures on your current Switch console (or Switch Lite) right now.
