Among Us coming to Xbox consoles and Game Pass in 2021

Innersloth’s hit social deduction game Among Us will finally make its debut on Xbox consoles in 2021, with the game arriving on Xbox Game Pass as well.

Among Us is finally coming to consoles. Innersloth’s social deduction game, which released in 2018 but blew up in popularity this year, will launch on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in 2021. It will be available for purchase or playable for everyone who is subscribed to Xbox Game Pass on console.

As I mentioned, Among Us was one of this year’s most surprising games. Even though it released a couple of years ago, it wasn’t until this year that it really gained traction thanks, in large part, to the global pandemic.

With many around the world forced to self-isolate and social distance, Among Us provided a safe and fun way to interact with friends — even if it meant murdering them.

Among Us is a social deduction game inspired by the classic game Mafia (aka Werewolf). The game puts 4-10 players together in a spaceship. While most of the players are Crew, working together to complete tasks, there is usually one or two Imposters, whose goal is to eliminate the crew before the ship reaches home (all tasks are completed). Imposters can secretly sabotage equipment to slow crew member progress and sneak through vents to move quickly throughout the ship. Killing off crew members helps make your life easier, but you risk getting caught.

Crew members (or even imposters if they want to throw the others off) can call emergency meetings. During these times, players can discuss and vote on who they want to kick out.  This is where the real fun starts as players start pointing fingers. It is only during these emergency meetings when players can talk, otherwise the game is played in pure silence.

As I mentioned, Among Us has been a great game to play during the pandemic. It’s basically like a digital board game, but more streamlined for online play. It also improves upon the basic mechanics of Mafia, but doesn’t overcomplicate things.

Among Us is currently available on PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. It’s already available for Xbox Game Pass for PC.
