Fortnite will presumably have some sort of in-game event to ring in the New Year and there’s already an emote to say goodbye to 2020.

Fortnite is so much more than just a battle royale game. The Epic Games’ blockbuster has evolved to become a space where players can just log in and hang out, watch concerts or movies, play creative mini-games, and experience sponsored limited time events.

With that in mind and much of the world still experiencing some form of self-quarantine, Fortnite could become a go-to place to celebrate New Year’s Eve with friends. So far Epic Games hasn’t announced any official New Year’s Eve celebration plans but it’s assumed that the game will have some sort of event.

In the past, players were treated to a digital fireworks show and got to enjoy watching a disco ball lower from the sky — similar to the Times Square Ball in New York City. According to various leaks, a similar show could be in store for players this year.

Various players have taken to Reddit and Twitter to share what looks like leaked footage of the planned New Year’s Eve event. As expected, there are multicolored lights and fireworks that light up the sky along with a glowing ball of light. If the leaks are true, hopefully, player deaths will be temporarily turned off so that everyone can experience the show.

If you’re looking for something more official, Operation Snowdown is still running in Fortnite. This year’s Winterfest 2020 event runs until January 5 and features special quests that you can complete to earn free rewards, including the Shield Surprise Back Bling, Frosty Globes Pickaxe and more.

There are also other holiday-themed Outfits and cosmetics available for purchase, including this brand new emote in which we finally say goodbye to 2020 and welcome 2021.

I’m sure we’re all eager to put 2020 behind us and celebrate 2021, but let’s do so safely. Fortnite offers a great way to connect with friends and ring in the New Year from the safety of your home.
